Music quality for streaming and offline playback is bound to be one concern for potential members and it appears Apple will be taking a conservative approach, according to Slashgear. Earlier this year Apple finally allowed apps in the Games category to appear on the South African App Store. Reverse Wireless Charging was one of the rumored features for iPhone 11 last year, but Apple allegedly removed it from the final version of the devices. Now, FCC filings for iPhone 12 have revealed that this year’s devices might have a functional reverse wireless charging system. Following the iPhone 11 rumors in 2019, iFixit disassembled the new smartphones as usual and then discovered that the iPhone 11 Pro has some components that are part of a bilateral wireless charging system, but that was unfinished — so it doesn’t work at all....

As the heated legal saga between Apple and Qualcomm only continues to intensify, the California chipmaker is now insisting that after asking Chinese courts to impose an all-out iPhone ban in the region, it won’t rule out imposing Chinese civil procedure to fine or detain legal representatives from Apple for disobeying the sales ban, according to Global Times China. As it does every year, Apple has today made its WWDC 2018 video transcripts available. This means interested developers can now quickly search through content from WWDC sessions, as opposed to having to watch each video… Apple’s transcripts are linked directly with each video, meaning developers can search in the transcript and then immediately jump to that part of the video. Due to local regulatory rules, FaceTime is blocked on iPhone and iPad devices sold in UAE countries including Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This has been the case for many years. Obviously, the appeal of Apple’s ecosystem is stunted when features like FaceTime are unavailable. There are promising signs that, soon, the ban will be lifted. According to a court filing discovered by Reuters, Apple and Google’s Motorola Mobility unit have agreed to settle their ongoing smartphone patent litigation battle against each other. In a statement, the two companies said that this agreement does not include the ability cross license each other’s patents, but rather the promise to “work together in some areas of patent reform.” The two tech giants have been battling it out over various patents for several years now, both directly and indirectly....

Following AT&T’s announcement this morning, Apple confirmed 2 million pre-orders in 24 hours. That statistic more than doubles the pre-order record of approximately 1 million units held by the iPhone 4S (600,000 for iPhone 4). Apple also noted demand is exceeding its initial supply and some pre-order customers will not receive their device until October. For those doing the math, that is 83,333 units an hour (or 1,388 a minute, or 23 a second, etc....

Along with officially announcing WWDC 2021 today, Apple has announced and opened its annual Swift Student Challenge. Prizes this year will include exclusive WWDC outerwear, customized pin set, and membership to the Apple Developer Program. WWDC 2021 will be all virtual and is set for June 7-11. Earlier this morning, Reuters reported that the popular Didi Chuxing Chinese ride service was eying a US initial public offering with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley leading the effort. Now it’s come to light that the company has allegedly already confidentially filed for the IPO. Notably, Apple invested $1 billion in Didi back in 2016 which also gave it a seat on the ride service’s board. Earlier this morning, Reuters reported that Didi was expected to file privately for its IPO sometime this month....

In iOS 7, Apple introduced nearby networking features called Multipeer Connectivity to allow iOS devices in proximity to talk to one another over WiFi or Bluetooth even without a traditional Internet connection. Developers have used the tech for everything from exchanging files and other data between devices, to remote control functionality, and multi-device experiences like the iTranslate Voice app that sends real-time speech translated from one device to the other.
