Apple’s appealing against a court decision which could see the company hand over as much as $625.5 million in damages relating to technologies relating to Spotlight, Time Machine and Cover Flow. The verdict was issued last Friday, when US District Judge Leonard David presided over a jury who declared Apple was guilty of patent abuse. The patents relate to work by Yale professor David Gerlenter whose spin-off firm Mirror Worlds Technologies launched the lawsuit....

In addition to expanding the amount of content on the service, Apple has shown an interest in bundling Apple TV+ with other properties. In August, the company launched a heavily-discounted Showtime + CBS combo subscription for Apple TV+ members. It is also reportedly preparing a mega Apple content services bundle, set to launch alongside the iPhone 12. Anthem’s community manager has posted a heartfelt letter in response to a fan letter that has gained a lot of traction on the game’s subreddit. Darokaz, the community manager, took the time to address each point that was made in an effort to clarify BioWare’s stance on Anthem moving forward, and the response has been largely positive. Anthem has had an extremely rough go as of late, with several planned updates doing more harm than good....

Anthony Mackie reveals that he saw another Captain America shield on the set of WandaVision. Marvel Studios is expanding the MCU this year beyond the movies with a string of TV shows for Disney+. This year, they’re rolling out two projects instead of one, with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier premiering in August, while WandaVision will debut in December. Given this, production on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision overlap with each other, with both projects primarily filming in Atlanta....

Apple has sued the Canadian electronics recycling company Geep after it was caught illegally selling over 100,000 Apple devices that were supposed to be recycled. Geep is saying that the responsibility should fall on the three employees that acted on their own but an interesting twist here is that they were reportedly Geep executives. Following Taylor Swift’s public criticism of Apple’s decision not to pay artists and labels for plays during Apple Music’s three-month free trial period, Eddy Cue took to Twitter to announce a swift policy change. Lots of people plan to buy the iPhone X, but Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak isn’t one of them – at least, not on day one. He said this will be the first year he doesn’t upgrade to a new iPhone at launch … Woz made the comment to CNBC, though didn’t explain why. He currently uses an iPhone 8, though he doesn’t appear overly impressed with that either. Ahead of the first orders arriving to customers on Friday, Apple has published a new press release today recapping the new iMac, iPad Pro, and Apple TV 4K. The company confirms that the three new products will hit Apple Stores on the same day. Apple also confirms that while only select colors of the iMac will be available to purchase at Apple Stores, all seven will be on display. Apple has opened another center for app development and design, this time in Shanghai — and its first in China. Apple runs these offices in specific areas to stimulate the ‘app economy’. Participants can take classes in various parts of the app development process, including one-on-one tutorials, for free. Apple has lent its support to a legal brief supporting a transgender school student’s fight in the Supreme Court regarding the right to use the bathroom appropriate to his gender identity, reports the NYT. Apple today is rolling out a minor update to its Apple Music app on Android. The update brings the app to version 2.1 and brings under-the-hood improvements. The update is available now on the Play Store. In the changelog, Apple simply states that the update includes minor app and performance improvements. Today’s smaller update follows a larger update back in April that marked the apps’s first major update. The update brought with an iOS 10-style redesign, with lyric support, improved support for Beats 1, For You playlists, and more....
