Apple has announced its eighth annual iTunes Festival event at the Roundhouse in London through a press release on its website. The 30-day event will run through the month of September and feature over 60 bands, including Maroon 5, Pharrell Williams, Beck, and many more. As usual, the entire event will be available for live streaming and on-demand viewing online, through the iTunes Festival iOS app, or an on a dedicated Apple TV channel....

Earlier this week we told you that Apple had announced an upcoming sale in many of its Asian online stores to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year taking place at the end of January. The sales see Apple offering discounts in China, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Malaysia online stores similar to deals on offer for Black Friday in the US and other countries. This year Apple is offering cash discounts on the usual products— up to $40 off iPads, $100 off Macs, and smaller discounts on iPods and Smart Covers— it’s also offering a rare discount on iPhones at around $50 off both the iPhone 5s and 5c....

As it continues to expand its global reach through its retail stores, Apple has begun recruiting for Apple Store-specific positions in Brussels through job listings posted online. As MacGeneration points out, the upcoming Apple Store opening in the capital city will mark Apple’s first retail location in Belgium. Currently Apple lists a total of six job listings targeted for Brussels with retail positions including Expert and Genius, all of which were posted today....

As pointed out by The Next Web Apple has begun to role out a new redesign for category home pages in the App Store. The redesign follows suit with the home page of the App Store, displaying a large horizontal banner which runs through the category’s featured apps. As of now, the redesign is only appearing in the Education and Games sections. Besides the banner, Apple has removed the section that displayed all of the category’s apps, and has replaced it with the “Staff Favorites” section....

After opening earlier this week, Apple’s ticket lottery for its 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference came to a close earlier today. Now that the lottery is closed, Apple has started notifying developers who won tickets and offered them the opportunity to purchase tickets… Apple this evening began sending emails to developers who were chosen to attend. Developers were told that they have until Monday, April 3rd at 5PM PT to pay the $1,599 price tag for the ticket....

Apple has shot down the significance of an apparent source code leak for the iPhone’s iBoot bootloader which loads the operating system. The original report flagged the source code leak as the ‘biggest leak in history’ based on one researcher’s description, but Apple has significantly downplayed any risks associated with the leak while seemingly confirming its authenticity. Motherboard reported the leak last night after what appeared to be source code for iBoot was posted publicly online....

Apple has cut the price of its iPhone lineup in Japan including the brand-new iPhone SE, by approximately 10% across the board. The price drop can be seen online on Apple’s Japanese storefront, via Macotakara. A 16 GB iPhone SE was selling for 52800 yen (483 dollars). The new price from today is 47800 yen (437), representing an approximate $50 saving in dollar terms. Apple today announced that it has finally filled the role of Senior Vice President of Retail: the Cupertino tech giant has hired Angela Ahrendts. Ahrendts is leaving her role as CEO of fashion retailer Burberry to take the top Apple retail job. Ahrendts will also lead Apple’s online stores. She will officially begin her role in Spring 2014. You may recall Apple replaced its original Head of Retail Ron Johnson, who left for JCPenney but has since been removed from that role, with John Browett, but Browett proved not to be a good fit and was removed almost a year ago to date....

iMessage has come a long way since its introduction in 2011, but Apple’s messaging service is still behind competitors like WhatsApp and Telegram in some aspects. But now the company might be working on exciting new features for iMessage, as a new patent from Apple reveals an option to edit messages after they’ve been sent. The patent was filed by Apple in December 2019 and published today by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), which suggests that Apple may be planning to introduce some of these changes with iOS 14....

Over the past few weeks we’ve been getting multiple tips from developers saying that their apps are being tested with iOS 5. The new OS is being tested on all manner of iOS devices including iPods, iPads and iPhones. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any unreleased devices likely because Apple is aware that usage logs go out to developers and wants to keep those devices under wraps. This is interesting because widespread testing of apps usually precedes the developer release of a major iOS release by a few months....

Like February’s healthy heart challenge, March’s Women’s Day achievements include animated stickers that can be sent and received over iMessage. Flume, an electronic music producer from Australia, recently took to social media to announce two new documentaries coming to Apple Music. The Australian electronic music producer has been making waves over the past few years for his unique genre-bending sounds. The first documentary, Flume: When Everything Was New, will probably focus on the artist’s meteoric rise into his music space. The second documentary, Sleepless: The Story of Future Classic, could have a mix of both Flume’s career and his involvement with the independent record label Future Classic....

Apple is continuing to build its arsenal of original content. Deadline reports this evening that Apple has won world rights to a new documentary called “Songwriter” that highlights the life and career of singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran… The report says that Apple paid somewhere in the “low to mid-seven figures” for world rights to the documentary. The company is said to be planing a release that includes both a theatrical component as well as a release on “Apple’s multiple platforms....

Mac4Ever is reporting that Apple has confirmed that the Apple on Campus program, allowing students to buy significantly discounted Macs and accessories via their college, is no longer available in either Belgium or Switzerland. The confirmation was provided in a one-line response by Apple Switzerland. Yes, Apple on Campus was stopped. However, the Apple Education Store discounts are obviously still valid … The discounts available through the Apple Education Store are lower than those available when buying through the Apple on Campus program....

A jury in San Diego, California has ruled that Apple must pay WiLan a total of $85 million for patent infringement, as reported by Bloomberg. This was a retrial of a case from last year in which WiLan won $145 million, a ruling that was set aside by U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw. The two patents at the heart of this infringement case cover ways to make phone calls and simultaneously download data....

First launch the Mac App Store and find OS X Lion. It will be located on the right hand side under Quick Links. Click the download button. After clicking download, you’ll be taken to Launchpad (if you’re already using Lion). This will take some time, so you might want to do something else and come back to it awhile later. Once it’s done downloading, go to the Finder and look for the Install Mac OS X Lion icon in the Applications folder....

Anthem fans are beginning to unify in their opinion of the game, and it’s not looking pretty — a recent post on the game’s subreddit has declared the game dead, and garnered over 8000 upvotes from its users. Anthem’s updates have been an issue since the game launched, but a recent statement from EA and BioWare recently left fans feeling particularly pessimistic about the game’s future after it was referred to as an “early access release,” a term that had never been applied to the title prior to the acknowledgment its progress had been slower than expected....
