CNBC reports today that Apple has hired another prominent cardiologist: David Tsay from the Columbia University Medical Center. Tsay served as a professor of cardiology at Columbia University medical Center, as well as an associate chief transformation officer. His focus was on “implementing digital services,” today’s report says. Apple previously hired Alexis Beatty from the University of Washington....

Apple has launched a new way to apply for the Apple Card, giving people the ability to apply for the Goldman Sachs-backed credit card through the web. This marks another notable expansion outside of the Apple Wallet app on iPhone. As first spotted by MacRumors, Apple quietly launched this new web portal for Apple Card applications last week. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is planning to open new offices in a quickly growing Vancouver development. Apple will join the likes of Deloitte and IWG plc’s Spaces in the office space. Apple is said to be a “key tenant” of the upcoming 400 West Georgia development in Vancouver, which is described as a “futuristic tower.” It’s currently slated to be completed sometime in the spring of next year....

Premiering with a first episode today, Apple Music is launching a new concert series called “House of Strombo” hosted by Canadian TV and CBC radio personality George Stroumboulopoulos. The new series will include house party-like live performances from the host’s home in Toronto, Canada and will include videos of the concerts on Apple Music, as well as interviews with artists and behind-the-scenes content. Update: It appears Apple has fixed the crashing problem with a server-side change. The launch of Apple News+ is not going as smoothly as Apple had probably hoped. Many iPhone and iPad users are finding that the Apple News app is crashing repeatedly after updating to iOS 12.2. According to sources, Apple is aware of the issue and is rapidly working on a fix. It’s not clear if the company will need to rush out a new iOS 12....

TPK Holdings, a supplier of touchscreens for iPhones and iPads has seen serious business come its way as a result of its Apple connection, raising $200 million from its IPO — the largest such offering in Taiwan this year. Apple today denied a recent report that the company is in the process of testing out its own Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) services, a sign it could be laying the groundwork to offer its own wireless services for its devices. Apple has officially issued a statement on the story from Business Insider, saying it’s not planning or discussing an MVNO cellular service: “We have not discussed nor do we have any plans to launch an MVNO,” said an Apple spokeswoman in a statement on Tuesday....

As Apple often does when natural disasters strike, the company is donating $1 million to the American Red Cross to help those affected by Hurricane Florence on the East Coast. Shared in a tweet by Tim Cook this morning, the CEO mentioned the donation along with a heartfelt message. Apple often donates to various charities, including the Red Cross in the wake of natural disasters. Apple recently uploaded two new Apple Music advertisements to its U.K. YouTube channel. App Review appears to be more strictly enforcing rules regarding the use of Apple intellectual property in third party apps, which now includes emoji. Developers are reporting that their apps are now getting rejected for using the Apple emoji icon set in screenshots, other marketing and parts of the user interface (such as using emoji in place of custom iconography).
