Transit directions in Apple Maps for users in Japan are expected to go live to the public when iOS 10.1 is released, and Apple today has flipped the switch for iOS users running the latest iOS 10.1 beta build. According to local blog Ata Distance, Apple Maps in Japan supports transit data information with the latest iOS 10.1 beta, offering information such as transit times and fares.
Additionally, the actual mapping has been updated to show train lines and subway lines, as well as new signage. There’s also enhanced indoor mapping for places such as railway stations and subway stops, ensuring that Apple Maps will get you all the way to your designated pickup spot.
The transit interface in Japan is largely similar to that of other areas, showing route estimation times, fares, and more.
Ata Distance notes that there are still some rough areas with transit directions in Japan, but the foundation is there and ready for a release alongside iOS 10.1. For instance, when it comes to indoor mapping, details are a bit unclear with underground locations, passageways, and exit information. Nevertheless, the beginning is present.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has been touring Japan recently, meeting with Nintendo executives, announcing a new development center, and meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
