A glitch in BioWare’s MMORPG Anthem is allowing players to combine Javelins. Anthem takes players to a world abandoned by the gods, with the only signs that they were there left behind in the form of tools of creation. One such tool, called the Anthem of Creation is so powerful that an evil organization called the Dominion wants to claim it for itself, which would potentially give its group an unlimited amount of power.
The goal of Anthem players is to go on missions to stop the Dominion from gaining this tool. In the game, players choose between four types of Javelins, or exosuits, depending on their preferred gaming style. Each Javelin type has its own unique abilities and skills, though the suits are also customizable. Although Anthem seemed promising early on, a confusing release schedule frustrated gamers before the title launched, and then reviews began coming in that referred to the game as mediocre and dull, as well as full of its share of bugs and glitches. Anthem quickly became BioWare’s worst-reviewed game in the company’s history.
Although BioWare has tried to keep up with reports of bugs and glitches, as well as player complaints, it seems that one glitch has proven beneficial to Anthem players. Kotaku reports this glitch allows players to combine Javelins, meaning they can have more than one gameplay style at any given time by using abilities and skills from more than one Javelin at a time. Some players suggested the glitch is available on PC if they installed the game on an HDD. One Anthem user showed how the glitch worked on Reddit by combining a Colossus Javelin with an Interceptor.
This isn’t the only glitch Anthem players have found to exploit within the game. Another bug with the Colossus Javelin allows players to trigger their lightning coil attacks before flying, allowing them to continue to use their flamethrower even when in flight. In theory, players aren’t supposed to be able to use weapons while in the air. It is likely that once BioWare catches wind of players exploiting these bugs, these glitches will eventually get patched. But Anthem is filled with so many other problems that a Diablo developer recently wrote out a lengthy explanation on how BioWare can fix the title.
BioWare does seem committed to making Anthem better, but it seems the game has already been a fail for the studio. Fans generally have high expectations when it comes to BioWare games, and Anthem appears to be falling short. Although the company promises more exciting endgame content, it remains to be seen if players will want to stick around long enough to play it.
