Apple Music creative director and Beats 1 head Zane Lowe has today been announced as a keynote speaker for the 2017 South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. The event takes place from March 10th through March 19th, though it’s unclear when Lowe’s presentation will be (via Billboard). Throughout the festival, a variety of keynote presentations will be given, focusing largely on music and film. One talk that sounds interesting will come from Spotify’s chief strategy and content officer Stefan Bloom....

Apple today announced a new partnership with PayAnywhere, a credit card reader that serves more than 300,000 locations around the United States. As part of the partnership, the latest version of the PayAnywhere reader will also be sold in all Apple Stores beginning this September for $39.95. The PayAnywere Mobile Reader accepts Apple Pay, as well as a variety of other contactless NFC payment solutions and traditional magnetic stripe credit cards....

Apple and Google created a coronavirus contact tracing API to help governments create their own apps – but an initial report suggests that take-up hasn’t been high. Just 22 countries and a handful of US states have so far requested access, and a subsequent iOS and Android update to allow contact tracing to work without an app appears to be some months away. Apple surprisingly began to show a repair index for devices like the iPhone and Mac in the Apple Store app and the Apple Online Store in France this week. Users can now get a better idea of how easy it is to repair that device before buying it. As reported by MacGeneration, the index is related to local regulations set by the Minister of Ecological Transition. There are five different criteria used to determine the index for each device, which include ease of disassembly and availability of parts needed for repair....

Apple Music officially announced that it is bringing lossless music quality options to its entire catalog at no extra cost, starting in June. Apple says lossless quality will be available for more than 75 million tracks in the Apple Music library. It is also launching support for Spatial Audio music with songs authored in Dolby Atmos. Users will be able to listen to select albums with an immersive 3D sound-space on AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max and Beats headphones with a H1 or W1 chip....
