It costs $1,099. It’s a good display (if you don’t like curves) and it has the same LG hardware inside, but doesn’t offer what Apple does in its new monitor — which costs $100 less!...

Apple is coming together with Google, Microsoft, and Mozilla to deprecate the use of TLS 1.0 and 1.1 by early 2020. TLS stands for Transport Layer Security and is used to protect web traffic. ArsTechnica was first to report on the agreement, while Apple’s WebKit blog has also detailed the change. As we reported yesterday, Apple is now selling contract-free iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in retail stores and online. Following historic pattern, the 16 GB base model iPhone 6 costs $649 with higher tiers costing $100 extra. The iPhone 6 Plus starts at $749. Unlocked iPhones can be activated for use any carrier, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon or T-Mobile. Apple usually launches unlocked models of their phones a couple of months after normal debut, but this year it seems slightly delayed....

Apple this evening has shared another ad in its long-running Shot on iPhone campaign. This ad is unique from others in the series in that it features a narration from astronomer Carl Sagan, reading from his book “Pale Blue Dot.” Sagan’s narration is overlaid onto a variety of different videos, all of which were shot with an iPhone. Apple is slowly expanding the Look Around feature that was introduced last year with iOS 13. Previously available only in the United States, the company is now making Look Around available to some Japanese cities. Look Around, which is available within Apple Maps, works basically like Google’s Street View. The Apple-owned sleep monitor app Beddit is out with an update today that makes good on a promise from the company a few months ago. With today’s update, the cloud syncing functionality of the app has been removed. Today’s update brings the app to version 2.9.2, and as reported before, Beddit Cloud is no longer available to users. Beddit Cloud let users upload and backup their sleep tracking data to the cloud, in addition to syncing to the Health app, for example....

Respawn Entertainment’s new battle royale game, Apex Legends, has been officially revealed and is now available to download on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Perhaps the worst kept secret in the industry is Respawn’s Apex Legends, which was hinted at last year when EA revealed in an earnings call that they had their recently-acquired studio Respawn working on two games: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and an unannounced title at the time....

App Annie is out today with its January 2013 index that covers revenue from mobile app sales in the App Store and on Google Play. While Apple was able to hit record revenues in December, increasing revenue by one-third during the month and growing by one-fifth from Q3 to Q4, Android posted even stronger growth by doubling revenue quarter-over-quarter. According to TIME, U2’s partnership with Apple goes far beyond a free album in your iTunes library, much to the chagrin of some users. The Apple Arcade service was originally touted to contain exclusive titles, but the terms of that exclusivity only refer to other mobile services, which means that Apple Arcade titles can also appear on consoles and PC.
