Apple today has launched a new repair program for iPhone 6 Plus users affected by the widely reported on “Touch Disease” hardware flaw. This flaw centers around an iPhone’s display becoming unresponsive and displaying a thin gray flickering line along the top. As part of the new repair program, Apple will repair affected devices for a flat service price of $149. Apple writes on its website that it has determined that “some” iPhone 6 Plus units are plagued by the problem....

After the US Supreme Court gave the go-ahead for an antitrust case against Apple in regard to its App Store practices, Apple responded with a brief statement. In Apple’s latest Machine Learning Journal entry, the Siri Speech Recognition Team shares an overview of the work behind improving Siri’s understanding of names for regional points-of-interest by incorporating the user’s location. Based in part on data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Apple has been able to tune Siri to better understand users based on where they are and what POIs they’re more likely to ask about. Apple says machine learning on its own has helped improve automatic speech recognition for general language over the years, but “recognizing named entities, like small local businesses” has proved a performance bottleneck....

Robin Burrowes, the person in charge of Xbox Live marketing in the EMEA region, left Microsoft for Apple and is now charged with heading the App Store marketing initiatives for iTunes Europe. Apple ad revenue could grow more than five-fold by 2025, according to JP Morgan. The bank says that the opportunity is created by the Cupertino company’s growing Services business. The report seems highly speculative… Apple doesn’t detail its current ad revenue, and analyst Samik Chatterjee seems to imply that the number could only be reached by including some form of advertising within or around Apple TV+. Reuters has seen the report....
