In a statement to USA Today, Apple has officially announced it has signed up 11 million members to Apple Music since launch. Eddy Cue says he is “thrilled with the numbers so far”, noting that about 2 million of that number have signed up for a family plan, which costs $14.99 for up to six people. The real success of Apple Music won’t be known until the 3 month trial ends and the 11 million have to make the choice to start paying for the monthly subscription....

Apple announced today in a new partnership with Clipper that the Clipper card will soon be supported in the Wallet app and Apple Pay. Users will soon be able to use the card on iPhone and Apple Watch across all the San Francisco Bay Area transit agencies with just a tap without authentication. The Clipper card is a reloadable smart card used for transit fare payment in the San Francisco Bay Area....

Due to a security flaw discovered in its Flash Player software, Adobe released an update to the web plugin earlier this week. Today Apple confirmed that it had updated its plugin blacklist for OS X to stop the system from using a version of Flash Player older than 14.0.0.145 (or 13.0.0.231 on older systems). Apple today released iTunes version 11.3 and with it is making its iTunes Extras feature available for HD movies on Macs. Apple also announced today that the feature is now available for Apple TV with update 6.2 and will arrive on iOS 8 this fall. While we’ll have to wait for iTunes Extras to arrive on iOS with the release of iOS 8 this fall, the Apple TV OS 6.2 update rolled out late last month to users alongside iOS 7....

Andreas Gal, the Apple employee involved in a controversial US Customs and Border Protection detainment, is speaking out about his experience. In an interview with ABC News, Gal elaborated on why he feels he was targeted and offered more details on the interaction. Earlier this week, the ACLU revealed that it was filling a complaint alleging that border control officers violated the constitutional rights of Gal. The Apple employee was returning from a business trip to Sweden in November when he was detained at the San Francisco International Airport....

Confirming a claim from earlier today, Bloomberg‘s Adam Satariano reports that Apple has confirmed the hire of former Yves Saint Laurent CEO Paul Deneve. According to Apple, Deneve will report as a Vice President to Apple CEO Tim Cook. Yves Saint Laurent is a high-profile global fashion brand and retailer. Contrary to earlier speculation, Apple says that Deneve will work on “special projects,” not in retail. Apple has been without a de-facto Head of Retail since John Browett’s departure last fall....

Apple is sending out invites to random registered developers, giving them the chance to buy an Apple Watch with guaranteed delivery by the end of the month. Developer get the opportunity to buy a 42 mm Apple Watch Sport with shipment by the 28th of April. Apple is emailing selected developers, who are offered to apply here. The process is by application only. Developers find out whether they are eligible to actually go through with the purchase on the 23rd of April, this Thursday....

Through a press release and a post on Medium by Apple VP Lisa Jackson, Apple and The Conservation Fund have today announced a ‘breakthrough’ arrangement for sustainability. The deal involves Apple purchasing 36,000 acres of forest land in the eastern United States. Apple will use the paper from the forests for sustainable product packaging with guarantees to ensure that “forests stay forests” and harvested timber is done so in a sustainable way....

A patent application filing by Apple demonstrates a system where a vehicle can be unlocked via mobile biometric authentication, perhaps opening the door (literally) for Face ID to one day secure our cars. Entitled “System and Method for Vehicle Authorization”, the patent was only published last Friday, however, it was filed over two years ago in February 2017. The patent offers up a background, explaining: By the car specifically knowing who is unlocking it, a shared family vehicle in theory could tailor specific music and driver settings automatically based on the person actively approaching the car — similar to separate user profile settings on a computer....

Update: Selig says Apple has corrected the error and Apollo for Reddit should soon return to the App Store. After a feature-rich update over the weekend, Apollo for Reddit has today been removed from the App Store. Developer Christian Selig took to Reddit to explain that he received an email from the App Store Review team explaining that his app violates App Store Guidelines by offering push notifications as an in-app subscription upgrade....

China’s O-Film, a camera module manufacturer, told investors today it received a notification from a “particular overseas client” saying it would cut its business ties, according to Reuters. O-Film, which is known as a supplier of camera modules for Apple, said the customer was responsible for 22.51% of its operating income in 2019. In December, a report suggested that Apple was dropping this iPhone camera supplier, following accusations that O-Film used forced labor....

The service has been available in the United States for years now, since 2011, but today marks the first time people in Canada and Australia can place an order online, then head to their local Apple Store to pick it up.
