Apple today announced a new record for the fastest selling album ever on the iTunes Store with the latest release from Beyonce selling 828,773 albums in its first three days of release. The latest Consumer Intelligence Research Partners data for the April to June quarter showed that Apple was attracting more Android switchers than at any time in the past 12 months. The good news for Apple is that relative to earlier quarters, they attracted a higher percentage of iPhone buyers from Android phones. In the past three quarters before the June 2017 quarter, Android owners had represented 14% to 17% of iPhone buyers....

Apple today has stopped signing iOS 14.4.1, which means that users who have updated their device to iOS 14.4.2 can no longer downgrade. This follows Apple’s release of iOS 14.4.2 one week ago, which included an important security fix. Apple released iOS 14.4.2 last week to fix a critical security vulnerability. Apple said that a bug in WebKit could allow a malicious website to activate arbitrary cross-site scripting. According to Apple, the vulnerability had been exploited in the wild....

Following the WWDC keynote, Apple has released the first beta of SF Symbols 3. This latest version of SF Symbols includes over 600 new designs developers and designers can use in their apps. The update also includes a new inspector for seeing details about individual symbols. Apple’s portfolio of symbols now includes updated icons for game controllers, devices, health, and more. There are also now dedicated localized symbols for Arabic, Chinese, Devanagari, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Latin, and Thai....

Data from Yahoo-owned analytics company Flurry shows that iPhones and iPads comprised more than half of all mobile device activations between 19th and 25th December, at 51.3% – almost three times as many as second-placed Samsung. Apple has adjusted the pricing of AppleCare+ plans for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro users, with a notable distinction between Intel and M1-powered machines for the first time. Starting today in the United States and select other countries, AppleCare+ is now cheaper for the 13-inch M1 MacBook Pro than for the Intel MacBook Pro. Apple recently introduced several changes to the ways education and enterprise customers can manage iOS device deployments. The first of these changes has to do with how devices are configured before being assigned to employees. Previously IT administrators would have to plug each device into a computer and apply a profile that configured the settings and restrictions. Under the revised program, customers can now order pre-configured devices directly from Apple, cutting out the setup step and allowing for faster, more convenient deployment....

Apple has today launched its new Data and Privacy website, allowing Apple users to download everything that Apple personally associates with your account, from Apple ID info, App Store activity, AppleCare history to data stored in iCloud like photos and documents. This is currently only available for European Union accounts, to comply with GDPR, and will roll out worldwide in the coming months. There are also simple shortcuts to updating your info, temporarily deactivating your account and options to permanently delete it....

Apple today said that it is launching a voluntary recall and replacement program for the 15-inch MacBook Pro. The company says that select 15-inch MacBook Pro units sold between September 2015 and February 2017 contain a battery that may overheat and pose safety risks. In some instances, the battery used in these MacBook Pro units may overheat and pose a safety risk, Apple says. Affected customers can have their battery replaced by Apple free of charge....
