Apple’s Discussion Forums are filling up with Verizon iPad 2 owners who are having issues connecting to Verizon’s 3G network. The issue forces users to have to restart if they want to connect to 3G after disconnecting. Mobilized got Apple to make a statement on the matter: Verizon and AT&T iPad 2s have different chipsets as was discovered last month. AT&T’s uses the Infineon chipset while Verizon’s uses a new Gobi chipset from Qualcomm....

Apple has hit walls introducing Apple Pay into Australia with the banks arguing Apple’s business practice was anticompetitive. The banks demanded access to the NFC hardware in the iPhone to be able to offer competing contactless mobile payments services. Apple refused and the banks went to court. Although draft rulings indicate that the court will rule in favour of Apple, the final decision will be announced in March. Today, Apple continues to lay on the criticism accusing the Australian banks for attempting to ‘delay or even block’ the Apple Pay rollout....

Apple today announced its own continuous integration system called ‘Xcode Cloud’. Xcode Cloud allows developers to commit code which is then built on Apple’s servers. Test suites can then be performed in parallel whilst the local developer continues to do other things. Apple is also bringing TestFlight to the Mac for the first time. This allows developers to easily distribute beta builds of their software to a test pool of users....

Three former members of the Apple Supplier Responsibility team say Apple was complicit in labor law violations in China. They are supported by a former Apple senior manager familiar with the company’s Chinese operations. They say Apple was aware of the violations by its suppliers, but took no action because it feared that to do so might delay product launches … The Information says that a new law was introduced in 2014, stipulating that no more than 10% of employees be hired on temporary contracts....

Apple has confirmed to The New York Times that a “very limited” number of iPhone 5s units could experience shortened battery life as the result of a manufacturing problem. The exact number of affected units is not clear, but the statement is said to imply that the number is in the few thousands range. Apple sold 9 million iPhones total over its opening weekend. The NYT notes that a manufacturing problem does not equal a defective battery, so it is unclear what the actual source of the issue is....

Apple today has updated the Apple Music beta app for Android with a pair of notable features from iOS 13. With today’s update, Android users can now take advantage of Dark Mode in Apple Music, as well as time-synced lyrics. Today’s update to the Apple Music beta app brings it to version 3.0.0. It is only available to Google Group beta testers, but expect it to launch publicly alongside iOS 13 in the fall....

Following the release of iOS 13.6.1 last week, Apple today has stopped signing iOS 13.6. That means users can no longer downgrade from iOS 13.6.1 to iOS 13.6. Reverting to older iOS builds is common for those with jailbroken devices and can sometimes also be helpful for users who experience significant bugs after upgrading to the latest version of iOS. Apple today has officially announced the rebrand of iTunes Connect. As we speculated earlier this week, Apple confirmed on its developer blog this afternoon that it is rebranding iTunes Connect to App Store Connect. App Store Connect offers all of the same functionality as iTunes Connect, and includes a brand new iOS app that makes the entire process of uploading, submitting, and managing applications easier. App Store Connect allows developers to manage their applicants, view sales reports, access app analytics, invite users to test apps with TestFlight, get performance insights, and much more....

A college has caused controversy after using a smartphone app to track student attendance in classes. The app has so far been used to check up on athletes, but its use is now being expanded to include all new students… The Kansas City Star originally reported that it was mandatory for students to install the app. The college subsequently issued a statement denying this. Apple confirmed today that it has acquired cloud networking startup Union Bay Networks and will open a software engineering office in the company’s home town of Seattle. This will be Apple’s first time venturing into the city, though many other tech companies have already established offices in the area. The first hints that an acquisition may have taken place came when GeekWire noticed that Union Bay’s co-founder Benn Bollay now lists himself as a manager at Apple on LinkedIn and seems to be attempting to recruit new workers in the area to the Cupertino tech giant....
