Apple has apparently updated its Apple TV trademark with new conditions related to gaming. Patently Apple reports today that the company filed an updated trademark last Friday to cover gaming use cases, a move that the site calls “a significant update that has to be taken seriously.” The new trademark, made public today, was filed solely under the “Internationalal class 028” which exclusively covers video games. In partnership with the Israel Tech Challenge, Apple is co-hosting an event at its Israel headquarters to discuss a new Design Verification Engineering course. This course will be a ten month-long program. The event will be hosted by Rony Friedman, VP at Apple and the manager of the Apple Israel R&D Center. Apple is rolling out an important software update which brings the iOS 11.4.1 to various of its devices. Latest update from the smartphone giant weighs 225.2 MB. It brings reliability improvement for syncing of notes, emails, and contacts with exchange accounts. Users have been reporting of not being able to find the last known location of their airpods. In addition to releasing the first iOS 9.3.3 developer beta, Apple has issued OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 Developer Beta 1 through the Mac App Store. The first pre-release version is available to developer testers and features build number 15G7a (up from 15F34 on the public version). The latest OS X beta is relatively small at roughly 600MB but does require a restart to complete installation. Release notes appear outdated, however, as they specifically mention OS X 10....

Leading up to the unveiling of a new lower-cost plastic ‘iPhone 5C’ expected at Apple’s September 10 event next month, Apple is looking to hire an “experienced plastics material engineer” to work on iPhones and iPads. The engineer would join Apple’s iPhone/iPad Materials team and must have “extensive experience in plastic material properties, part design and fabrication.” While we know the current iPhone and iPads do use some internal plastic parts, the job listing also makes mentions of aesthetic requirements as well as experience in “plastic materials and design for manufacturing in terms of geometry and cosmetic quality....

Earlier this year Apple was hit with a class action lawsuit over FaceTime being disabled on older iPhones that can’t run iOS 7, and this week an attempt to have the lawsuit dismissed has failed. Reuters reports that U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh made the decision not to dismiss the lawsuit… Apple’s decision to stop supporting FaceTime on the iPhone 4 was a result of a patent lawsuit it lost against VirnetX which resulted in Apple switching to a cheaper method to support the video calling feature....

The cases are priced at $129 for all three phones. Further, the iPhone XS/Max/XR Smart Battery cases are available in white and black. Apple touts that the new Smart Battery case for the iPhone XS adds 33 additional hours of talk time, 21 hours of internet use, and 25 hours of video. The iPhone XS Max case adds 37 hours of talk time, 20 hours of internet, and 25 hours of video playback....

Update: The issue was resolved after a few hours. A glitch in the iOS App Store means that all apps are shown as having only five reviews on category listings screens. The correct number of reviews is shown once you click through to the app. Apple last month moved to fix another issue with App Store reviews. Those using iOS betas were leaving poor reviews for apps simply because they didn’t work with as-yet unsupported versions of the mobile OS....

Whoa, Apple has reconsidered its stance on in-app subscriptions and has changed strict guidelines of its iOS developer agreement to allow in-app subscriptions outside the App Store. MacRumors spotted a crucial change in section 11.13 which previously required that content sold outside of the app be “also offered in the app using In-App Purchase at the same price or less than it is offered outside the app”. This requirement, which applied to both purchased content and subscriptions, is no longer in effect and has been entirely removed from section 11....

One month after his last drone flyover of Apple’s under construction Apple Campus 2 site, Matthew Roberts has sent over an update for July that gives an up-close look at progress in recent weeks. In the video, we see Apple is making rapid progress towards reaching its goal of completing construction by the end of the year. As for the main circular building on the site, Apple has made noticeable progress on the installation infrastructure for solar panels and fuel cells, and it’s also continued installing the massive glass panels and canopies— the world’s largest— that make up the interior and exterior of round ‘spaceship’ structure....

It appears that most of the foundation is laid now in an update from a video taken by a drone two weeks ago. Apple CEO Tim Cook has called Apple’s Campus 2 the ‘Greenest in the World’. The controversial structure which will house 12,000 staff in 2.8M square feet on 176 acres and is estimated to be completed in 2016. Interestingly, even though Apple is covering the construction site with a high green wall, it is updating the 3D flyover of the location in Apple Maps somewhat frequently....

Apple’s Chief Information Officer Niall O’Connor visited Bangalore in January, according to The Economic Times, and the senior officials at technology firms Infosys and Wipro made sure he received the full-treatment upon landing in India. Apple is supposedly looking to “quadruple the amount it spends in India, making it all the more covetous for Infosys and Wipro.” The CIO will decide which Indian companies get software outsourcing orders and maintenance work worth about $100 million USD (490 crore), which is roughly 20 percent of the Cupertino, Calif....

Apple yesterday updated Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Compressor for macOS with new features to detect media files that may be unsupported on future versions of macOS. Today, Apple has updated a support document with additional details about incompatible media files for Final Cut Pro X and Motion projects. Last year, Apple warned users about macOS legacy media support with future versions of macOS. Today’s updated support document sheds more light on the upcoming changes....

As we await more details on Apple Silicon and the upcoming iPad Air, Apple executives Tim Millet and Tom Boger recently joined Relay FM’s Upgrade podcast to talk about the Mac and iPad lineups, including details on the A14 processor, how the iPad used internally at Apple, and much more. Millet serves as Apple’s vice president of platform architecture, while Boger is the company’s senior director of Mac and iPad product marketing....

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is in talks with cable television operators to use an Apple TV device as a set-top-box. Instead of Apple building their own TV show database to compete with the cable operators – as Apple has discussed with show creators in the past – this approach would simply plug cable operators to televisions via an Apple device. The report says that Apple’s plans with cable TV networks aren’t necessarily for the current Apple TV $99 box....

Shawn Blanc (via The Next Web) calculated this morning that Apple is selling 16 iPhone 4Ss a second, or roughly 1,000 a minute. Blanc’s figuring comes after Apple announced this morning that there were 4 million iPhone 4Ss sold its opening three-day weekend. Figures are also expected to expand as the iPhone 4S is introduced in 22 more countries on the 24th. Reaching this milestone, Apple is on tract to pass Microsoft’s Kinect as the fastest selling consumer device of all time....

Apple appears to be taking its new Apple News app to the place that news often breaks (then spreads), Twitter. The Twitter handle @applenews has been dressed for the job for several months now although it’s been inactive before today and it isn’t yet marked “verified” by Twitter; Apple execs Eddy Cue and Roger Rosner are among those that follow the account, however, which suggests it’s an official Apple property. As Tim Cook mentioned in an email last week to employees, Apple has taken another step to promote equality and justice after the Charlottesville tragedy as it has teamed up with the Southern Poverty Law Center to accept donations through iTunes this morning. Last Wednesday, Apple pulled Apple Pay support for websites that “promote[s] hate, violence, or intolerance based on race, age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.”...

As noted by PatentlyApple, Apple has filed a patent report today that details a new diagnostic tool that works through iTunes. The tool uses in-depth change logs that details firmware updates, physical conditions that surround the device during the events, the location of the device, and more. iTunes could be set to find corruption in the change log to let the user, and possibly a support Genius, know of what needs to be changed....
