Apex Legends is the latest battle royale sensation, breaking 25 million registered players during its first week available. Developer Respawn Entertainment suddenly launched the game last Monday, February 4, and positive buzz has seen Apex Legends become one of the most talked about titles in recent memory, with a its playerbase swelling at an incredible rate. Apex Legends seemed doomed to fail when it was first announced. Respawn Entertainment was supposed to be hard at work on Titanfall 3, the latest entry into the beloved mech series that had become synonymous with the developer....

Installing the application offers users a route to the App Store – you can browse and download applications now, but you’ll need to wait until iPhone Software 2.0 ships to run them on your iPhone. The App Store isn’t automatically showing as an option when you log into the iTunes Store, though it has been showing up occassionally this morning in the main view as a menu navigation option. If it doesn’t, it is very easy to get there – open up the new ‘Applications’ folder you’ll see in your personal iTunes navigation area to the left, once in Applications select “Get more applications” using the button at the lower right....

As we reported earlier this morning, Apple’s AirPods were available to arrive before Christmas for a very short period of time. As shipping times have slipped to January through Apple, options to get them at extremely inflated prices have popped up predictably quickly by scavengers sellers on eBay. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has today published an Apple patent application for incorporating displays into woven fabric. While the patent describes a variety of possible uses, some of the language effectively describes use in Apple Watch bands, with several of the drawings also pointing to this. One specific part of the application describes a case where “portable electronic device includes a timekeeping device,” and a list of potential devices includes “electronic wrist watches” … A woven fabric includes light transmissive fibers woven into the fabric to provide a visual display....

So many of Apple’s products either rely on or benefit from wireless Bluetooth connectivity these days that viewing Bluetooth’s roadmap is almost like viewing features for future Apple devices and accessories. Today the Bluetooth Special Interest Group has shared details on updates planned for the wireless connectivity technology in 2016 including improvements to range, transfer speed, and smart applications. Future and potentially even current Apple devices will certainly benefit as a result....

A complaint has been made to a European privacy watchdog that Apple does not fully comply with its GDPR obligations. The General Data Protection Regulation requires companies to supply, on request, a copy of all the data they hold on you. Having tested this with ten users, an Austrian non-profit organization said that Apple failed to supply a complete set of data … GDPR is the world’s toughest privacy law, and places a number of obligations on companies which collect the personal data of European Union citizens....

In a new class action lawsuit, Apple is being accused of deceptive trade practices and false advertising due to its claims of iOS 9 being compatible with older iOS devices, primarily the iPhone 4s. The lawsuit claims that iOS “significantly interferes” with the performance of the iPhone 4s and that Apple is in the wrong for not allow users to downgrade to older versions of the operating system. The lawsuit, which has more than 100 backers, goes as far to say that the iPhone 4s was rendered essentially unusable by the iOS 9 update (via AI)....

As Apple Pay continues to expand, Apple is holding a special shopping event in San Francisco to promote the mobile payment service. The “Lose Your Wallet” event will highlight stores that support Apple Pay while offering exclusive discounts… The shopping event will consist of 20 merchants in Hayes Valley and 16 in the Marina, running from Friday, June 23rd through Sunday, June 25th. Headlining the “Lose Your Wallet” event, however, is the steep discounts that merchants will be applying to Apple Pay purchases....

Alongside the introduction of the iPhone 12, Apple has added a new 20W USB-C power adapter to its lineup of accessories. The new 20W USB-C power adapter replaces the 18W USB-C adapter that Apple used to sell for $29. The new 20W USB-C power adapter retails for $19 when buying direct from Apple. The adapter comes as Apple has stopped including a wall charger and EarPods in the box with the entire iPhone 12 lineup, and has also retroactively removed them from the box of the iPhone SE, iPhone XR, and iPhone 11 that it continues to sell today....

Apple just landed the No. 2 spot on LinkedIn’s fresh list of most “inDemand” employers from around the world. Details, gameplay footage, a cinematic trailer, and more have finally arrived for Apex Legends. After ample leaks and speculation, the game is now officially available across Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This successor of sorts to Titanfall 2 is a free-to-play game based within the battle royale genre, and is sure to be billed by the publisher and others as Electronic Arts’ push to combat Fortnite. Still, this ambitious labelling doesn’t quite encapsulate what Apex Legends really is....

As users powered on their new iOS devices and received iTunes gift cards on Christmas day, a strong surge of app downloads obviously followed. According to analytic firm Distimo, App Store downloads increased a whopping 87 percent on Christmas Day, compared to the rest of December 2012. With the increased downloads, revenue consequently rose 70 percent. Interestingly, the iPad and iPad mini seemed to be the most popular iOS gift given, as downloads and revenues rose by 140 percent and 83 percent, respectively....

Just after bringing wireless charging to the iPhone for the first time this year, Apple has acquired Auckland-based wireless charging company PowerbyProxi. While it’s unclear how much Apple paid for the company, it was founded in 2007 as a spin-out from the University of Auckland. Apple’s Dan Riccio, senior vice president of hardware engineering, commented on the acquisition while speaking to New Zealand news site Stuff. Riccio explained that the Powerbyproxi team will be a great addition as Apple “works to create a wireless future....

Apple has been rolling out support for its new Apple Pay payments service to more and more banks in recent weeks. The latest addition was America First Credit Union making an announcement late last week, but Apple has since updated its support document over the weekend to also announce support for Commerce Bank. Commerce Bank, which serves Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Oklahoma, Colorado and a few other locations, hasn’t yet made an official announcement, but it’s now listed as supporting personal credit cards on Apple’s support site for Apple Pay....

Swiss Federal Railways SBB said it would soon meet with Apple representatives to discuss an agreement over its classic clock face design found in the new Clocks app for iOS devices. “There’s been no agreement so far, we’re going to talk about it,” announced SBB spokesperson Patricia Claivaz to global news agency AFP, noting SBB’s lawyers first requested the sit-down. SBB was unable to provide an exact date for the gathering, but its spokesperson added, “We’re rather proud that a brand as important as Apple is using our design, it’s already on show in exhibitions in places like New York....
