The anti-loot box bill that has been a talking point in the games industry over the past month has garnered more support in Senate prior to its introduction today, as two Democratic senators have committed to the proposal that would see a ban on the sale of loot boxes to children. According to a report from Foss Patents (and confirmed by Reuters), Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook and Samsung Chief Executive Officer Gee-Sung Choi will meet within the next 90 days for settlement talks over ongoing patent disputes. Judge Lucy Koh, who is presiding over the two cases in California, initiated the meeting after ordering the companies to submit their CEOs and legal counsels to an Alternative Dispute Resolution. The report called the talks “semi-voluntary,” because the companies did not have to submit to the Alternative Dispute Resolution....

At WWDC today Apple has announced changes to Apple Music. Eddy Cue first noted that Apple Music has 15 million paying subscribers, which is the most of any streaming service during the first year. As expected, Apple has entirely redesigned the Music app interface with a new design. Now, when you open the Music app the first screen you will see is the “Library,” as opposed to previous versions when the “For You” screen was shown....

Apple has slowly been expanding mobile phone billing (or carrier billing) to additional countries, and three more have been added to the short list of supported countries this week. Customers in Austria, Italy, and Singapore can now use mobile phone billing with select carriers where available. Mobile phone billing lets customers roll charges for the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, and Apple Music memberships into monthly phone bills from the carrier as an alternative to storing debit or credit cards with Apple....

A new job listing on Apple.com could add fire to the rumors that Apple is considering including fingerprint technology in upcoming devices. The job posting seeking a software engineer to write “low-level code to configure and control hardware” is the only listing on Apple’s site located at the “Melbourne Design Center” in Melbourne, Florida. Not only is the position looking for someone familiar with testing various sensors with LabTool and FA software, but Melbourne is also the home base of Authentec, the company Apple acquired fingerprint technology from last year for around $365 million....

In an interview with Bloomberg, Apple’s Lisa Jackson has announced that the company has achieved 96% worldwide renewable energy up from 2015’s 93%. Already having been at 100% renewable energy in the United States, three more of the company’s worldwide suppliers have pledged to follow suit. In the interview, Jackson mentions that the company won’t stop until it hits 100% everywhere. Within the United States Apple is at 100% renewable energy usage, alongside 23 other countries....

Apple today shared a support article that offers users of the new 12-inch MacBook assistance getting around a bug involving Setup Assistant. According to the article, some users have had the spinning beach ball appear during the initial setup of their MacBook. Apple is suggesting that users who get stopped by this bug to either wait 30 minutes for setup to resume, or to complete the Setup Assistant process without connecting to the internet....

Not only has Apple charged me $100 to use my 30 inch screen with my Unibody MacBook, but the adapter is huge and takes a USB port for power. Oh, and there was a one month wait for these parts initially. Also, the way this technology works, I can’t use a regular DVI adapter on a 30 inch monitor. If I try, I get the same resolution as on my MacBook’s built-in display, not normal 1920×1200 resolution that the normal DVI supports....

Apple today launched new international versions of its Smart Keyboard accessory for iPad Pro previously only available in a U.S. English layout. Available for both the 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models, Apple now offers the Smart Keyboard accessory with localized layouts including British English, French, Spanish, Korean, Italian and Arabic, among others. The new localized layouts include various differences similar to those available for the company’s Apple Wireless keyboards for Macs, while the new Arabic keyboard brings full support for the right-to-left language to Pad Pro....
